Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) is a non-traditional type of psychotherapy developed by Francine Shapiro  which is often used for treating PTSD. PTSD often occurs after traumatic experiences such as sexual assaults. The aim is always to enable you to recollect the original traumatic experience without disturbance, and to have new and more adaptive beliefs about yourself in relation to the experience.
